The Family of Frederick Ellerbeck

Frederick was born 6 November 1876 at Bilbrough, Tadcaster, to Thomas Ellerbeck, a groom, and Anne, formerly Dickinson. Anne registered the birth .

Frederick Ellerbeck married Annie Crossley in the Parish Church, Tadcaster, after banns, on 30 May 1898. Frederick was a bachelor, aged 21, a drayman of Tadcaster and the son of Thomas Ellerbeck, a brewer's labourer. Annie was a spinster aged 22, of Tadcaster, the daughter of William Crossley, a shoe maker. The witnesses were W. Crossley, Elizabeth Crossley and George Thomas Ellerbeck.

He was baptised 24 December 1876 at Bilbrough, a son of Thomas and Annie Ellerbeck.

 

In 1881, he was at home with his parents, at York Road, East Tadcaster, aged 4 and born at Bilbrough.

 

In 1891, at Plompton Hall, Plompton, Yorks, Fred was a farm labourer, aged 14 and born at Tadcaster, in the household of Robert Marston, aged 56, a farmer, born at Kearley or Kearby, Yorks.

 

Annie's death was registered in the June quarter 1899 in the registration district of Tadcaster (9c 1899).  She was aged 23.  Her death was as a result of having given birth to Elsie May.

 

In the 1901 census of Prospect Place, East Tadcaster, Frederick (head) was a widower, aged 24, a corn miller’s waggoner (worker), born at Bilbrough.  With him were his brothers Edwin, aged 20, a joiner (worker), born at Tadcaster and Harry, aged 17, a joiner (worker), born at Bilbrough.

 

Frederick Ellerbeck married secondly Margaret Ann Jackson, after banns, in the Parish Church of Pollington cum Balne (7 miles southwest of Goole), Yorkshire, 28 April 1903.  Frederick was aged 26, a widower and salesman, of 13 Tanfield Street, Leeds, a son of Thomas Ellerbeck, a brewer's labourer.  Margaret was also aged 26, a spinster of Pollington, a daughter of Charles Jackson (deceased), a farmer.  The witnesses were John S. Hobson and Ethel Howdle.  (Margaret Ann Jackson’s birth was registered in the Goole district in the September quarter 1876.)

 

In 1911, at 5 Brudenell View, Hyde Park, Leeds, in 5 rooms, Frederick (as Ellesbeck in the index) was aged 33, a manager of a hardware stores (general dealer, employee) and born at Bilborough (sic), Yorks.  His wife, Margaret Ann was aged 33 and born at Pollington, Yorks.  She had been married 7 years and had had 3 children, one of whom had died.  Their children were Dorothy Ellen aged 5 and Norman Jackson aged 3 weeks.  Both were born in Leeds.  There was also a monthly nurse, Annie Stones, aged 33, single and born in Leeds.

 

When he gave his daughter, Elsie May, away in marriage, he was stated as being of Leeds.

 

In 1939 (register) at 39 Brownberrie Avenue, Horsforth UD he was a hardware stores manager with an exact date of birth.  Margaret A had a date of birth of 19 May 1876, udd, and with them was a married woman, Josephine M Ellerbeck, a shorthand typist, with a date of birth of 16 January 1915 (Wilfred’s wife).

 

Margaret Ann Ellerbeck’s death was registered in the December quarter 1957 in the Wharfdale district.  She was aged 81.

 

Frederick died in the Oakham district in the December quarter 1965.  He was aged 89.

 

Frederick and Annie’s child was:

1.    Elsie May Ellerbeck (1899 – 1955), born 3 January 1899 at Rosemary Row, East Tadcaster.  She married Walter Edward Neal Turner.

2.    Dorothy Ellen Ellerbeck (1905 – 1916), born about 1905 in Leeds (registered in the September quarter 1905, sub-district Kirkstall). Her death was registered in the March quarter 1916 in the Leeds district.  She was aged 10.

3.    Margaret Ellerbeck (1907 – 1908), birth registered December quarter 1907 in Leeds, sub-district Kirkstall. Her death was registered in the March quarter 1908 in the Leeds district.  She was aged 0.

4.    Norman Jackson Ellerbeck (1911 – 1989), born about March 1911 in Leeds, sub-district Kirkstall.

5.    Wilfred Ellerbeck, birth registered March quarter 1914 in the Leeds district, sub-district Kirkstall (maiden name Jackson).
