The Family of Wilfred Ellerbeck (1914 – ) of Leeds, England and Vancouver, Canada

Wilfred Ellerbeck was registered March quarter 1914 in the Leeds district (maiden name Jackson), a son of Frederick Ellerbeck and his second wife, Margaret.

He married Josephine M.E. King in the district of Leeds North in the September quarter 1938 (later found to be 7 September 1938).  In 1939 (register) Josephine M. Ellerbeck, a shorthand typist and married, with a date of birth of 16 January 1915 was living in the Horsforth UD with Frederick and Margaret.

It seems that Wilfred (914995) joined the army; his attestation year was 1939 in the Royal Artillery and he was transferred to Para 390 (XVII)KRs on 4 December 1942.  This would explain why he was not with Josephine.

Wilfred aged 32 (an agent), Josephine aged 31, of Leeds, sailed from Liverpool to New York on board the Franconia, leaving on 19 November 1946 and they were to be permanently settled in Canada.

From the internet it was found that a Wilfred Ellerbeck and a Josephine Ellerbeck had masses said for them on 9 June and 27 May respectively at St Anthony’s RC church, West Vancouver, in 2016, and in Josephine’s case also in 2014.  These dates then are the anniversaries of their deaths, since there cannot be many with these names!  Josephine died 27 May 1986 at Richmond, British Colombia.

An account of the life of Josephine Ellerbeck (nee King) is available on the internet at mymothersstory.org.
