He was born 8 April 1872 at Brampton Bierlow (registered in the Rotherham district June quarter of 1872), a son of Joseph Vollans and Hannah (formerly Jackson).
In the 1881 census he was living at home, aged 8 and born at Brampton Bierlow.
In 1891 he was living at home aged 18, a coal miner and born at Brampton Bierlow.
He married Esther Oates (sister of Sam Oates, who married Alice Vollans) 25 December 1896 in the Rotherham district.
In the 1901 census he was living at Townend, Wath-en-Dearne, in four rooms. He (Allan J.) was aged 28, a coal miner and born at Newhill. His wife, Esther, was aged 28 and born at Newhill, and his children were Allan, aged 3 and Howard, aged 6 months. They were both born at Newhill.
Allan and Ester’s children were:
Allan Vollans (1897 - 1990), born about 1897 at Newhill. He died in 1990.
Howard Vollans (1900 - 1902), born about October 1900 at Newhill. He died in 1902.
Amy Vollans (1903 - 1928)
Jack Vollans (1905 - 1909)
Fred Vollans (1909 - 1992), born 4 May 1909 at Newhill. He
married Edna Cox. He died 22 July
1992 Kelmscott, Western Australia.
