The Family of Thomas Thwaite

Thomas's baptism may be 17 or 19 July 1768 a child of Simon Thwaite and Rosey (Pratt), at Hardrow, Yorks. This is 8 miles to the east of Garsdale.

A possible marriage for Thomas Thwaite is to Ann Hammond at Garsdale, Yorks, 7 April 1798. Garsdale is a chapel in the parish of Sedburgh. It is 10 miles from Gale Garth, where Thomas was a farmer when Rosamond was born. There appear to be no Thwaite baptisms at Garsdale.

Thomas may have died by 1841 as an elderly Ann Thwaite, aged 65 and not born in the county, is in the household of Simon at Ravenstonedale.

A possible death registration for Ann Thwaites is the Leeds north sub district in 1843.  There appears to be no possibility in the East Ward district (includes Ravenstonedale) in Westmorland 1841 – 1851

Thomas and Ann's children were

  1. Simon, baptised 24 March 1799 at Dent, Yorks.
  2. Margaret, born 7 February 1801 and baptised 19 April 1801 at Kirkby Lonsdale, Westmorland.
  3. Thomas, born about 1802/3 at Kirkby Lonsdale.
  4. Rosamond, born 25 February 1809 at Gale Garth, Casterton and baptised in May 1809 at Kirkby Lonsdale, Westmorland.  She married George Kerton 21 January 1844 in Leeds.
