William Pettit was baptised 25 December 1853 at Wickhambrook, a son of George Pettit and Mary formerly Bye.
In the 1861 census of Lady Mead Road, he was living with his parents, aged 7, and born at Wickhambrook.
In the 1871 census of Baxters Green, Wickhambrook, he was living with his parents, aged 17, an agricultural labourer, and born at Wickhambrook.
He may have married Emma Chapman in the December quarter 1879 (registered in the Risbridge district, 4a 882).
In the 1881 census he was living next to his parents’ house at Baxters Green. He was 27, an ag. lab. born at Wickhambrook and Emma his wife was aged 21 and born at Lidgate.
In 1891, in 3 rooms at Baxters Green, Wickhambrook, and next to his parents’ house, William was aged 38, an agricultural labourer and born at Wickhambrook. His wife, Emma, was aged 30, a seamstress (shirt) and born at Lidgate. Their children were Arthur aged 9, John aged 7 and Jessie aged 5, all born at Wickhambrook.
William’s death appears to have been registered in the December quarter of 1893 in the Risbridge district, 4a 431, as William Pettitt aged 40.
In the 1901 census of Baxters Green, Wickhambrook, Emma was a widow, aged 43, living in 2 rooms and a tailoress (worker, at home), born at Lidgate. With her were her children Arthur, aged 19, an agricultural labourer, John aged 17, an agricultural labourer and Alice M aged 5 (or 8 ?), all born at Wickhambrook.
In 1911, at Baxters Green, Wickhambrook, in 2 rooms, Emma was aged 50 and born at Lidgate. She was a widow and had had 5 children four of whom were still alive. With her were her single son, John aged 27 a labourer on farm and Alice M aged 15 a domestic servant. Both were born at Wickhambrook.
William and Emma’s children were:

George Pettit, baptised 7 August 1892 at Wickhambrook (labourer).
Alice Maud Pettit, born about 1896 at Wickhambrook, and registered as Alice Maud Pettitt in the Risbridge district in the March quarter 1896. In 1911 she was at home with her mother.
