Elizabeth Osborne

Elizabeth was a daughter of Thomas Osborne and Elizabeth.  She was may have been born about 1797 though she could have pruned her ages in the censuses to be nearer the age of her husband.  There is a baptism at Nowton, Suffolk, in 1791.

She married William Lee 27 May 1822 at Nowton, Suffolk (very close to Sicklesmere).

In the census of 1841, at Sicklesmere Hamlet, Great Whelnetham, Elizabeth was aged 44 and William was aged 43, a carpenter.  Both were born in the county.

In the census of 1851, at Sicklesmere, Great Whelnetham, Elizabeth was aged 54 and born at Nowton and William was aged 53, a carpenter’s journeyman and born at Whepstead.  With them was Elizabeth Osborne a widow and William’s mother-in-law, born at Hartest and was supported by her son in Middlesex.  Also with them was Sarah Osborne, William’s niece, unmarried and aged 30.  She was born in London and was being supported by her Uncle (sic, but probably her father, Henry) in Middlesex.

In the census of 1861, in Hawstead Lane, Great Whelnetham Elizabeth was aged 65, a carpenter’s wife and born at Nowton.  William was aged 64, a carpenter’s journeyman and born at Whepstead.  With them was Sarah Osborne aged 39 and born at Grays Inn, Holborn.

In the census of 1871, at Cottage, in Great Whelnetham probably Sicklesmere Elizabeth was aged 74 and born at Nowton.  William was aged 73 a wheelwright and born at Whepstead.  With them was their niece, Sarah Osborne aged 50, unmarried and an imbecile.  She was born at Grays Inn London.

William Lee’s death is registered in the Thingoe district in the June quarter 1878.  He was aged 81.  He was buried 10 April 1878 at Great Whelnetham, aged 81.

In the census of 1881 (Transcript), in Hawstead Lane, Great Whelnetham, Elizabeth was a widow aged 85 and born at Nowton.  With her was a lodger, Sarah Osborne, single, aged 57 and born in London Middx.  This was her brother Henry’s daughter.

Elizabeth Lee was buried 26 January 1882, aged 87, at Great Whelnetham.  Her death was registered in the March quarter 1882 in the Thingoe district.  She was aged 87.

It is probable that Elizabeth and William had no children.
