The Family of Alexander Johnson of Baslow

 

He was baptised 23 January 1630/1 at Baslow, a son of Thomas Johnson.

 

Alexander married Sarah White 10 September 1663 at Old Brampton.

 

On 17 February 1677/8 Alexander Johnson signed, with others, a document in support of the following statement "This is to satisfie whom it may concerne that wee the inhabitants of the Chapellrie of Baslow doe make chose of Mr Joseph Fearne for our Minester whose names are here subscribed."

 

Alexander was buried June 1701 at Baslow.

 

His will was dated 30 May 1701. He was a webster (weaver) of Baslow. His sons, Thomas, Joseph, Richard, Samson and Samuel, and his daughters, Elizabeth, Mary and Frances each received 2s 6d. His wife, Sarah, received possession of the farm at Baslow held under Rowland Eyre of Hassop 'notwithstanding that his Worship did sell the said farm to my son Thomas Johnson'. Sarah also received the residue. His executor was his wife, Sarah. He signed his name and the witnesses were Joseph Nichols, John Stafford (X) and Robert Stafford. The appraisers of the inventory were Joseph Nichols, George Bower, Joseph Matley and Joseph White. Value: 26. 1s. 0d. The will was proved at Bakewell, 29 October 1701.

 

(The Eyres lived at the Hall, Hassop and from about 1814 to 1853 when the male line failed, were Earls of Newburgh.)

 

Sarah was buried February 1721/2 at Baslow.

2.      Thomas, baptised 6 December 1665 at Baslow, a son of Alexander Johnson. He married Margaret Poll, March 1692 at Baslow. He was a beneficiary under his father's will of 1701.

3.      Joseph, baptised 28 July 1669 at Baslow. He married Isabell White, June 1692 at Baslow. He was a beneficiary under his father's will of 1701. He was buried 18 January 1707/8 at Baslow, of Bubnell (plur?). Isabel was buried 20 January 1720/1 at Baslow. Joseph and Isabell's children were

Thomas Johnson (1731 - 1808), baptised 7 December 1731 at Baslow. He could have married Margret Levick or Lewose at Bakewell, 8 July 1756. She died 6 October 1771 aged 35 years (MI).
