The Family of Thomas Johnson of Baslow

Thomas was baptised 18 November 1604 at Baslow, a son of Richard Johnson.

He may have married Jona Longden 17 July 1628, at Baslow.

He may also have married Elizabeth (buried 29 September 1670 as the wife of Thomas - this date is before the date of Thomas' will and may account for the lack of provision for his wife).

Thomas Johnson's name is listed on the Muster Roll for Bubnell, 1638.

He was buried 16 October 1670 at Baslow.

His will was dated 5 October 1670.  He was a husbandman of Baslow.  He left 1s to each of his sons, William, Thomas and Alexander and the residue to his grandson Joseph (son of Alexander Johnson, webster [weaver] of Baslow).  His grandson, Joseph, was his executor.  The witnesses were William Willson (X) and Edmund White (X).  The appraisers of the inventory were Humphrey Chapman and James Eastwood.  The value was £15.12s.2d.  It was proved 1670/1 at Bakewell.  An administration, granted to Alexander Johnson, accompanies the will because Joseph, his son, was under age so could not execute the will himself.

There is no mention of his wife, which suggests that Thomas was a widower when he made his will.
