I am grateful to Denise Carr and Jim Flack, (www.flackgenealogy.co.uk) for some of the information on this page.
Laura Flack was baptised 18 December 1863, at Linton (father, a labourer), a son of James Flack or Gibson and Susan formerly Sheffield. The 1939 register gives her birth date as 27 June 1863 (registered as Laura Flack in the September quarter 1863 in the Linton district).
In 1871 she was at home aged 7.
There was a Laura G. Flack in the 1881 census, a domestic servant, unmarried and aged 17 and born at Linton, in the household of Tom S. Jay, a mourning store keeper, at The Wilderness, Inner Park Road, Wandsworth, Surrey. A search of the Cambridge Indexing Project births 1860 – 1870 gave only one Laura Flack born at Linton, no middle initial (331/LIN/10/585). However, it is possible that G stands for Gibson.
Laura Flack Gibson, spinster, aged 26 of Hildersham, a daughter of James, a labourer and Thomas Morrell (widower) a labourer of Hildersham, a son of William, a bricklayer, were married 27 April 1889 at Hildersham. The witnesses were A Flack Gibson and Martha Mary Housden. Thomas was previously married, 27 December 1873 at Hildersham, to Anne Simpson who was buried 26 May 1886 at Hildersham and by whom he had two daughters and two sons.
In 1891, in Hildersham, next door but two to James and Susan Gibson were Thomas Morrill aged 35 an agricultural labourer, born at Linton. His wife, Laura, was aged 27, born at Linton and their children were Charles William (Chas Wm) 11, William aged 9 and George F. aged 1, all born Hildersham. (Charles and William were not Laura's children, see below).
In 1901, in 4 rooms at Hildersham Village, Laura Morrill, aged 37 and born at Linton, was with her husband, Thomas, aged 46, a horsekeeper on farm and born at Linton. Their children were George Frederick aged 11, Mary Salome aged 7, Ada Ellen aged 6 and Bernard aged 2, all born at Hildersham.
In 1911, at Hildersham in 5 rooms, Thomas Morrell was aged 56 a horse keeper and born at Linton. Laura his wife was aged 47 and born at Linton. They had been married for 22 years and had had 5 children of whom 1 had died. Their children were George aged 21 a general farm labourer, May aged 17 a general domestic servant and Bernard aged 12. All were born at Hildersham. With them was Thomas’s niece, Ida Boud, single and aged 26 a parlourmaid born in Cambridge. There were also two boarders, Hubert (24 a dairyman) and Robert (17 a domestic groom) Peters, both born at Hildersham.
Thomas Morrell was buried at Hildersham 26 June 1923.
In 1939 (register) she, a widow, was living with Bernard Morrell, a poultryman (date of birth 4 July 1898) at The Hill, Hildersham with a birth date of 27 June 1863.
Laura Morrell’s death was registered in the Cambridge district in the June quarter 1944. She was aged 80.
The children of Laura and Thomas Morrell were:
George Frederick Morrell, born 1889/90, at Hildersham and baptised 25 May 1890 at Hildersham.
Mary Salome Morrell, born 1893/4, at Hildersham and baptised 30 July 1893 at Hildersham. She married Thomas Matthew Griffin, 24 December 1919 at Hildersham.
