The Family of Thomas Ellerbeck (1798 – 1843) of Tadcaster and Rotherham

Thomas Ellerbeck was born 2 January 1798 and baptised 12 August 1798 at Tadcaster, a son of Thomas Ellerbeck of Tadcaster, shoemaker, son of Richard Ellerbeck of Tolston (sic) in the parish of Newton Kyme, farmer and Elizabeth, daughter of Ralph Dalton of York, cordwainer, by Ann, daughter of – Blackburn of Church Garforth, collier.

 

He married Mary and moved to Rotherham.  This is established from Fanny’s marriage in 1853 and place of birth in 1861.  In 1841 at Barley Hall, Wentworth, Wath-upon Dearne, Rotherham, Thomas Ellerbeck aged 40, an iron miner with Mary aged 30 and Fanny aged 7.  All were born in the county.

 

Thomas Ellerbeck was buried 6 December 1843 at Rotherham aged 45 (birth year 1798).

 

Thomas and Mary’s children were:

Fanny Elizabeth Ellerbeck (1834 – 1862), baptised 12 January 1834 at Tadcaster, a daughter of Thomas and Mary (labourer).  The baptism was on the same day (previous entry) to that of Emma, daughter of Charlotte (see below).  Fanny Elizabeth Ellerbeck married Robert Woolley in the March quarter 1853 in the Rotherham district.  In 1861, at 57 Hill Foot, Penistone Road, Nether Hallam, Sheffield, Robert was aged 27 a fender molder born at Brampton, Derbys, and Fanny was aged 27 and born at Lancs (!), Tadcaster.  Their children were Mary aged 7 and Henry aged 2, both born in Rotherham.  Fanny Elizabeth Wholly died in the Ecclesall Bierlow district in the December quarter 1862.  Fanny and Robert’s children were:

Mary Woolley, born about 1853.

Henry Woolley, born about 1858.

Susanna Ellerbeck, birth registered in the June quarter 1844 in the Rotherham district and baptised 5 May 1844 at Rotherham, a daughter of Thomas and Mary of Rotherham.  She married her brother-in-law, Robert Henry Woolley in the Sheffield district in the September quarter 1863.  In 1871 at 141 Cundy Street, Nether Hallam, Ecclesall Bierlow, Sheffield, Robert H Wholley was aged 36 a moulder born at Bramten, His wife was Susanna aged 26 born in Rotherham and Robert’s children were Mary A aged 17 and Henry aged 12 both born in Rotherham and Harriet aged 1 week and born in Sheffield.  In 1881 the family was at Holmley, Dronfield, Derbys (not far from Brampton).  Robert Woolley was aged 47 an iron moulder born at Derbys. Brampton.  Susanah was aged 37 born in Rotherham and their children were Lydia aged 8, Robert aged 6, Clara aged 4 and Susanah aged 6 months, all born at Dronfield.  There was one servant with them.  Robert Henry Woolley’s death was registered in the September quarter 1890 aged 56.  In 1891 at 7 Prospect Terrace, Leeley, Sheffield, Susanna Woolley was a widow aged 46 a nurse born at Ickles.  Henry, stepson, was single and aged35, an iron moulder born at Rotherham.  Susanna’s other children were Ernest aged 15 a coppersmith, Clara E. aged 13, Susanna aged 10 and Fanny aged 9, all born at Dronfield.  In 1901, at 40 Oak Street, Heeley, Susanah Wooley was a widow aged 56 born at Rotherham, Henry, stepson, single was aged 42 a labourer in a sawmill and born at Rotherham.  Susanah was aged 20 a silver finisher and Fanny was aged 19, both born at Dronfield.  In 1911 at 2 Spurr Street, Sheffield, in 5 rooms, Susannah Woolley was aged 66 and a widow and a monthly nurse, born in Rotherham, in the household of John Henry Gregory and his wife and daughter.  Susanna’s death was probably registered in the Sheffield district in the September quarter 1912 aged 68.  Susanna and Robert’s children were:

Harriet Woolley, born about March 1871 and registered in the June quarter 1871 in the Ecclesall Bierlow district.

Lydia Woolley, born about 1872.

Robert Ernest Woolley, birth registered in the Chesterfield district in the June quarter 1875.

Clara E. Woolley, born about 1876.

Susanah Woolley, born about 1880.

Fanny Woolley, born about 1881.
