The Family of Ann Burniston formerly Ellerbeck (1800 – 1886) of Tadcaster, Doncaster and Balby

Ann Ellerbeck was born 2 May 1800 and baptised 12 October 1800 at Tadcaster, a daughter of Thomas Ellerbeck of Tadcaster, shoemaker, son of Richard Ellerbeck of Toldston (sic) in the parish of Newton Kyme, farmer and Elizabeth, daughter of Ralph Dalton of York, cordwainer, by Ann, daughter of – Blackburn of Church Garforth, collier.

 

She (X), spinster aged 26 of the parish married William Burniston bachelor aged 23 of the parish of Doncaster, at Tadcaster 30 May 1826 after banns.  The witnesses were Robert Deighton and Emma Bean or Beam.

 

In 1841, at St Thomas Street, Doncaster, were William Burnester aged 30 a tailor, Ann 40, George 13, Mary Ann? 9, Sarah 7, Esau 1 and Jacob 1.  All were born in the county.

 

In 1851, at St Thomas Street, Doncaster, William Burniston was aged 47 a tailor born in Tadcaster.  Ann was aged 50 and born in Tadcaster and their children were Sarah aged 16, William aged 13, Isau aged 11 and Jacob aged 11, all born in Doncaster. 

 

In 1861 at 37 Baxter Gate, Doncaster, William Burnistone was aged 57 a tailor employing 4 men and born in Tadcaster.  Ann was aged 60 also born in Tadcaster and their children were Wiliam aged 24 a tailor and Esau aged 21 a cabinet maker, both were born in Doncaster.  There was also a tailor’s apprentice, John Parker aged 19 and born in Doncaster.

 

William Burniston died 29 December 1864 (registered in the Doncaster district in the December quarter 1864 aged 61).  He was late of Doncaster, a tailor and his will was proved at Wakefield 1 February 1865 by George Brooks, tailor of Doncaster, John Brooks of Doncaster gas collector and William Gill of Doncaster tailor, the executors.  His effects were under £1,000.  He was buried at Hyde Park Cemetery, Doncaster 1 January 1865.

 

In 1871, at 2 Clayton’s Buildings, Balby, Ann Burniston was a widow, an annuitant aged 70 and born at Tadcaster.  With her was a granddaughter Mary A. Lee aged 4 and born at Doncaster.

 

In 1881, at Clayton’s Building, Balby, Ann Burniston was a widow on her own, aged 80 formerly a tailor’s wife and born at Tadcaster.

 

Ann’s death was registered in the Doncaster district in the December quarter 1886 aged 86.

George Burniston, born about 1827.

Mary Ann Burniston (c. 1831 – 1893), born about 1831.  She married Thomas Lee in the Doncaster district in the December quarter 1852.  In 1861 at 92 Cemetery Road, Doncaster, Thomas was aged 29 a tailor born at Tadcaster.  Mary Ann, his wife, ws aged 29 and their children were William James (7), John Thomas (4), and Sarah Ann (1) all born at Doncaster.  There was also a visitor, Elizabeth Sanderson aged 20 a house servant born in Barmborough.  In 1871 at 23 West Laith Gate, Doncaster, there were Thomas (39) a tailor born Tadcaster, Mary A. (39), William J. (17) a Tinner and Gas Fitter, John T. (14), Charles (7) and Arthur (1), all born at Doncaster.  There was a lodger, John T. Lund aged 35 a whitesmith born at Pontefract.  In 1881 at 16 Bankside, Balby, There were Thomas (49) born Tadcaster, Mary Ann (49) born York (!), Mary Ann (14), Arthur (11 and Agnes (8), all born at Doncaster.  In 1891 at 22 Fitzwilliam Street, Doncaster, were Thomas (59) tailor born Tadcaster, Mary A (59), Arthur (21) a railways labourer, Agnes (18 a dressmaker, all born at Doncaster, and grandchildren Candice Lee (13) born at Derby and Thomas H. Lee (12) born Nuneaton.  Mary Ann Lee died in the December quarter 1893 in the Doncaster district aged 61 and Thomas Lee died in the September quarter 1897 in the Doncaster district aged 66.  They were both buried in Hyde Road Cemetery, Doncaster, Mary Ann 29 October 1893 and Thomas 24 August 1897.  Mary Ann and Thomas’s children were:

William James Lee,  born about 1853.  In 1881 at 12 Butchers Ally, Accrington, William J. Lee was aged 30 a tinplate worker born Doncaster.  His wife, Mary Ann was aged 26 born Doncaster and their children were Candace aged 4 born Derby and Thomas Henry aged 2 born Nuneaton.  William and Mary Ann’s children were:

Candace Lee, birth registered in the September quarter 1877 in the Derby district.

Thomas Henry Lee, born about 1878 at Nuneaton.

John Thomas Lee, born about 1856.

Sarah Ann Lee, born about 1859.

Charles Lee, born about 1863.

Mary Ann Lee, born about 1866.

Arthur Lee, born about 1869.

Agnes Lee, born about 1872.

Sarah Burniston, born about 1833.  She was born 13 October 1834 and baptised at Doncaster St George 7 November 1834, a daughter of William (tailor) and Ann of Doncaster.

Jacob Burniston, born about 1839.  In 1861 in West Street, Doncaster, he was aged 21, a tailor and his wife was Ann aged 21 both born in Doncaster.
