She was born 14 September 1850 at Barlby, a daughter of Joseph Vollans and Charlotte formerly Turner. From the censuses she appears to have been known as Elizabeth.
In 1851 she was at home with her parents, as Elizabeth, aged less than 12 months and born at Barlby.
In 1861 she was not with her father and step mother, and was found at 37 Horsefair, Doncaster, as Elizabeth Vallons, aged 11, a house servant born at Barlby, with Mary Graham, unmarried, aged 60, living on interest of money and born at Hatfield. It is likely that Elizabeth was placed there as her mother's family was from Hatfield and Joseph was living there when his first wife died and may have known Mary Graham.
In 1871 she appears to be a visitor in her fiance's sister, Elizabeth Inman's household, as Elizabeth Valkans, aged 20 and born at Balby (sic). Hannah married John Asbery in the Wesleyan Chapel, Doncaster, 11 April 1871 and died on 16 May 1913, at 30 Kimberworth Road, Rotherham, aged 61.
