He was at Brampton Bierlow (registered in the June quarter 1863 in the Rotherham district). He was baptised 27 December 1863, a son of Joseph Vollans and Hannah (formerly Jackson).
In 1871, he was at home with his parents aged 8 and born at Hoober Hall.
In the 1881 census he was living at home, aged 17, a trammer (coal mine) and born at Brampton Bierlow.
He married Lucy Royston in the June quarter of 1888, in the Rotherham district.
In the 1891 census he was living at Newhill, a coal miner, aged 28 and born at H-- Hall. His wife was Lucy, aged 26 and born at West Melton, and their son was Earnest aged 5 (but probably months or days) and born at Newhill.
In the 1901 census he was living in Holly Street, Hemsworth, West Riding. He was aged 38, a colliery underground deputy and born at West Melton. His wife, Lucy, was aged 36, and born at West Melton. Their children were Ernest aged 10, born at Newhill and Harold, aged 2, born at Hemsworth.
Probate was granted at Wakefield 20 June 1950 to Ernest Vollans, colliery overman. His effects were £307.9s.7d. He was of 4 Newstead Mount, Fitzwilliam, Pontefract and died 26 April 1950.
George and Lucy’s children were:
Ernest Vollans (1891 - 1973), born 1891 at Newhill. He died in 1973.
Harold Vollans (1898 - 1970), born 14 October 1898 at Hemsworth, and died 5 September 1970 at Upton, Pontefract.
