I am very grateful to Patricia Burke for information on Thomas.
He was born about 1848/9 at Barlby, a son of Joseph Vollans and Charlotte (formerly Turner).
In 1851 he was at home with his parents aged 2 and born at Barlby.
In the 1861 census, at Hatfield Woodhouse, in the household of John West, farmer aged 60, as Vallons, he was a cow boy aged 12.
In 1871, at Haydock Lodge, Lunatic Asylum, Haydock, Lancs, as T F?, he was aged 23, a boarder/patient/lunatic formerly a farm labourer.
In 1881, at Union Workhouse, Alma Road, Rotherham, as Nillans, he was an imbecile, aged 32.
He died 21 February 1883, at the Union Workhouse, Rotherham, a farm labourer, of tuberculosis.
