Sarah Vollans was born 12 November 1811 and baptised 19 January 1812 at Church Fenton, a daughter of Joseph Vollans.
She married David Backhouse 25 March 1838 at Church Fenton and registered in the March quarter 1838 in the Tadcaster district (23 459, both parties given). David had died by 1841, and a suitable entry of death is in the March quarter 1839 in the Tadcaster district.
In 1841, at Church Fenton, in the household of Joseph Vollans aged 55-59, an agricultural labourer, Sarah was a dressmaker aged 25-29. With her was David Backhouse aged 2. Both were born in Yorkshire.
In 1851 she was aged 39 and a dressmaker, in the household of her parents.
In 1861 she was aged 49 and a dress maker, visiting the house of her parents.
In 1871, at Biggin, she was aged 59, a dressmaker, with David aged 32 a woodsman.
In 1881, at Biggin, Yorks, she was a widow aged 68, a dressmaker, born at Church Fenton, lodging in the household of Joseph Binns, a farmer of 9 acres. Living nearby was her son, David and his family.
In 1891, at Biggin, she was aged 79, a dressmaker.
In 1901, at Biggin, she was aged 90.
Sarah's death was registered in the June quarter 1901 in the Selby district, aged 90.

In 1851 he was with his mother, in the household of his grandparents, and aged 12.
In 1861 he was visiting his grandparents with his mother, and was aged 22, an agricultural labourer.
David married SarahAnn Booker in the December quarter 1873 in the Selby district.
In 1881, at Biggin, Yorks. he was aged 43, an agricultural labourer, born at Church Fenton. With him was his wife, Sarah, aged 43 and born at Sherburn, Yorks., a dressmaker. Their children were Sarah aged 10, Jane A. aged 4 and Andrew aged 3 all born at Biggin. David and Sarah's children were
