Thomas was born 20 Sep 1827 and baptised 28 Oct 1827 at Sutton cum Lound, Notts. a son of John Skelton and Mary (formerly Downing).
In 1841, he was aged 13 and at home with his parents.
In 1851, at Styrrup, Notts., he was aged 23, a journeyman born at Lound, Notts., in the household of Robert Hayle aged 30 born at Tickhill, Yorks and his family.
In 1861, at 2 Dixon Street, Sheffield St Philip, Thomas was aged 33, a joiner's shopkeeper (birth places for the Skeltons were blank), Sarah, his wife was aged 28 and their children were John aged 7 and Mary aged 3.
In 1871, at 66 Crookesmoor, Nether Hallam, Sheffield St Philip, Thomas was aged 43 a joiner journeyman, born at Lound, Notts. His wife, Sarah, was aged 38 and born at Sutton, Notts, and their children were John aged 17, Mary aged 14, Annie aged 7 and Thomas aged 5. All were born at Sheffield.
In 1881, at 66, Crookesmoor Road, Nether Hallam, (south-west?) Sheffield, Yorks, Thomas was aged 53, a foreman joiner, born at Lound, Notts. His wife, Sarah, was aged 48 and born at Sutton cum Lound, Notts. Their unmarried children were John aged 27 an unemployed journeyman joiner, Mary aged 24, Annie aged 17 a milliner and Thomas aged 15 a journeyman joiner, all born in Sheffield.
In 1891, at 38 Horam Road, Nether Hallam, Eccleshall Bierlow, Sheffield, Thomas was aged 63, a joiner born at Lound. Sarah his wife, was aged 58 and born in Sutton-cum-Lound and their son, Thomas, a joiner aged 25 was born in Sheffield.
In 1901, at 15 Bannon Street, Nether Hallam, Sheffield, Thomas was aged 73 a joiner born at Lound and Sarah was aged 68 and born at Sutton cum Lound.
Thomas died 21 June 1909 (registered Eccleshall Bierlow district June quarter 1909, aged 81). Probate was granted 27 July 1909 at Wakefield to Sarah Skelton widow, Charles Morris Newton painter’s manager and Joe Webb draper’s assistant. He was of 15 Bannon Street, Sheffield and his effects were £648.
Sarah probably died in the Eccleshall Bierlow district in the March quarter 1911 aged 78.
