Jane was born 11 Feb 1821 and baptised 18 Mar 1821 at Sutton cum Lound, Notts. a daughter of John Skelton and Mary (formerly Downing).
She married William Kirton in the September quarter 1850 in the East Retford district.
In 1851, at Castlegate, East Retford, Notts. William Kirton, brother-in-law to Mary Gandy, was aged 22, a gardener born at Clarborough, Notts., and Jane Kirton, sister to Mary, was aged 28 and born at Mattersea, Notts.
In 1861, at Spittle Hill, Little Gringley, Clarborough, William was aged 32, a gardener, born at Clarborough. Jane, his wife, was aged 39 and born at Lound. Their children were Joseph, aged 10, Jane aged 7, John W. aged 5, all born at E. Retford, and Mary A. aged 1, born at Clarborough.
In 1871, at Spital Hill, East Gringley, Clarborough, William was aged 43 a gardener born at Clarborough. His wife, Jane, was aged 48 and born at Lound. Their children were Joseph aged 20, a gardener, Jane, aged 18 a general servant (domestic), John aged 14 and Mary Ann aged 12 all born at East Retford. There was also Mary Skelton, mother (sic), born at Notts, Wicksley.
In 1881 , at Spital Hill, Clarborough, Notts, William was aged 58 (possibly 53 in the original?), a gardener, born at Clarborough, Notts. Jane, his wife, was aged 59 and born at Lound, Notts and their unmarried children were John W. aged 22, a gardener, born at Retford, Notts. and Mary A. aged 21, a dressmaker, born at Retford, Notts.
In 1891, at Spittal Hill, Clarborough, in 4 rooms, William was aged 65, a gardener, born at Clarborough. Jane, his wife, was aged 69 and born at Lound. John, their unmarried son, was aged 30, a gardener and born at Retford.
Jane's death was registered in the March quarter 1899 in the E. Retford district. She was aged 77.
In 1901, at 34 Spital Hill, Clarborough, William was aged 70 a widower and gardener (domestic) a worker, born at Retford. With him was his unmarried son John W. aged 41, a gardener (domestic) a worker, born at Retford and his granddaughter Dorothy aged 5 and born at Retford.
