The Family of Constant Hutchins formerly Seymour

Seymour Family Chart

Woodland Family Chart

She was baptised at Framfield, Sussex, 7 January 1781 (Seamour), a daughter of Joseph Seymour and Elizabeth formerly Hemsley.

Although she didn't marry him, in 1803 Constant had a child, Mary, by William Woodland.

She may have been a court dressmaker.

On 5 April 1807 Constants Seymour married Richard Hutchins after banns at St George Hanover Square. They were both of the parish and the witnesses were P. Mussay and S. Colven.

(Richard Hutchins was one of the witnesses to the marriage of Stephen Seymour, his brother-in-law, to Mary Henty at Willingdon, Sussex, 15 April 1812.)

Constant Hutchins was buried at Alfriston (St Andrew), Sussex, 2 April 1813 aged 32.  This agrees exactly with her date of baptism and Alfriston is close to Jevington and Willingdon where her brothers, Joseph and Stephen Seymour lived.  There were no other possibilities for Constant found in England in a 100 year period from 1808 -1908, and this was the only Hutchins burial at Alfriston.  There were no Hutchins baptisms there either.

The child of Constant Seymour and William Woodland was:

  1. Mary, born 16 April 1803 and baptised 29 May 1803 at St George Hanover Square, London.
