The Family of Zebulon Searle

Zebulon was born about 1849 at Hersham, and registered in the March quarter 1850 in the Chertsey district.  His father was Caleb Searle and his mother was Elizabeth formerly Fory.

 

He married Mary Rebecca Thayers (a possible relative of Elizabeth Thayers who married James Tilliard Searle) 12 April 1869 at Brixton.

 

In the census of 1881 he was living at 25 Station Road, Walton (30, carpenter, born Walton) with his wife, Mary R. and children Lily (9, born Walton), Zebulon (7, born Walton) and Kathy (1, born Walton).

 

In the census of 1891, at North Road, Hersham, in 3 rooms, Zebulon was aged 40, a carpenter (employee) and born at Hersham.  He was married but there were no other Searles living with him.  From the 1891 index it was established that Mary R. Searle aged 39, Zebulon aged 17 and Kate aged 11 were living together and elsewhere in the Chertsey district.

 

In the census of 1901, at Green Lanes, Hersham, in 4 rooms, Zebulon was aged 52, a joiner (employee) and born at Hersham.  There were no other Searles living with him.

 

In the 1911 census index, in the Chertsey district, he was aged 64 and born in Hersham.  There were no other Searles with him. 

 

His death may have been registered in the March quarter 1929 in the Kingston district, aged 75 (giving year of birth 1854).

 

Zebulon and Mary’s children were:

1.      Lily Rebecca Searle, baptised 6 November 1870, Hersham.

2.      Zebulon Searle, born about 1873 at Walton.

3.      Kathy Searle, born about 1879 at Walton.
