The Family of Caleb Searle Junior

Caleb was born 15 December 1831 and baptised 15 January 1832 at Chertsey.  His father was Caleb Searle and his mother was Elizabeth formerly Fory.

 

He married Mary Ann Collins (born 11 March 1834 at Walton on Thames and baptised there 20 April 1834) in the Marylebone district in the December quarter 1853. 

 

In the census of 1861 he was living at Cobham Road, Hersham (29, house carpenter and joiner, born Chertsey), with wife Mary Ann aged 27 and born at Hersham and daughter Mary Jane (6, born Wandsworth).

 

His death was registered in the Chertsey district in the June quarter 1868.  He was aged 36.

 

In 1871 in Hersham, Mary Ann was a widow aged 37, a laundress born at Walton on Thames.  Her daughter, Mary J. Was aged 16 and born in Wandsworth.  There was also a visitor, Elizabeth Motts (?) aged 71 and born at Walton on Thames. 

 

Caleb and Mary Ann’s child was:

1.      Mary Jane Searle, born about 1854 at Wandsworth.  She (father Caleb) married Maurice Harding at Fetcham, Surrey 24 April 1879.

 

In the census of 1881, she was living at the Rising Sun,Inn, Fetcham, Surrey.  She was aged 26 and was born in Hersham.  Her husband was aged 27, a coachman, born at Fetcham and their daughter was Rose Mary, aged 1 month and born at Fetcham.

 

In the 1891 census (index), in Kensington, Maurice was aged 37, Mary Jane was aged 36, Rose M. was aged 10, Maurice H. was aged 8, William G. was aged 1 and there was also a Mabel A living with them.

 

Mary Jane and Maurice’s children were:

1.      Rose Mary Harding, born about February 1881 at Fetcham.

2.      Maurice H. Harding, born about 1882 (probably registered as Maurice Henry Harding in the Dartford district in the June quarter 1882).

3.      Mabel A. Harding, (perhaps registered as Mabel Annie Harding in the Kensington district in the June quarter 1887).

4.      William G. Harding, born about 1889 (probably registered as William George Harding in the Kensington district in the September quarter 1889.)
