Margaret Nettleton was baptised 1 April 1836 at Healaugh by Tadcaster, a daughter of James Nettleton and Hannah.
In 1841, she was aged 6 and living with her parents.
In the 1851 index, at Rufforth, Margaret Nettleton was a servant, aged 16 and born at Healaugh, in the household of Robert (42) and Sarah (43) Willstrop.
In the 1861 index, at Sutton, Margaret Nettleton was a servant, aged 24 and born at Healaugh, in the household of two brothers and a sister, Joseph (53), James (61) and Charlotte (42) Heptonstall.
She married George Benson in 1865 at St James, Seacroft, Leeds (CE62/81).
In the 1871 index, at Stutton with Hazlewood, George was aged 36 and born at Sherborne, Yorks and Margaret was aged 36 and born at Healaugh.
In 1881 she was living at Bilton in Wetherby, Yorks (3 miles from Healaugh), aged 47 and born at Healaugh. With her was her husband, George, aged 49, an agricultural labourer and born at Cowthorpe, Yorks. Also with them were their children Annie, aged 9 born at Stutton, and Charlot M. aged 6 and born at Bilton.
In the 1891 index, at Bilton, George was aged 56 and born at Cowthorpe, Margaret, his wife, was aged 56 and born at Healaugh and their daughter, Annie, was aged 19 and born at Stutton.
In 1901 (indexes) Margaret was found to be the only Benson in Lower Dunsforth, (12 miles north of Healaugh, near Boroughbridge) and was aged 66 and born at Healaugh. She was a charwoman not domestic and a visitor in the household of Frederick (67) and Mary Jane Sykes.
Margaret and George's children were:
Annie, born about 1871 at Stutton (south-west of Tadcaster).
Charlotte Mary, born at Bilton and birth registered in the December quarter or 1874 in the Wetherby district.
In 1881 she was at home with her parents, aged 6 and born
at Bilton.
In the 1891 index, at Wetherby,
she was a servant aged 16 and born at Bilton, in the
household of John (45) and Fanny (40) Jackson.
