William Nettleton was baptised 17 January 1840 at Healaugh by Tadcaster, a son of James Nettleton and Hannah.
In 1841 he was living with his parents and aged 1.
In 1851, living with his parents, he was aged 10 and born at Healaugh.
In 1861 he has not yet been found.
In the 1871 index, at East Tadcaster, he was a lodger aged 32 and born in Tadcaster, in the household of Fanny Freer, aged 57. With her also was her grandson, James Nettleton, aged 14 and born at Tadcaster. (Ann Freer married George Nettleton).
William may have married Hannah Massheder in the Scarborough district in the December quarter 1871.
In 1881, at Church Fenton, William (the LDS site has Nettlelon) was aged 39, an agricultural labourer and born at Healaugh. With him was Hannah, his wife, aged 29 and born at Clayton, and their children Elizabeth, aged 8 and born at Wighill, and Mary Jane aged 3 and born at Church Fenton.
In the 1891 index, at Heckmondwike, William was aged 49 and born at Healaugh near Tadcaster, his wife, Hannah was aged 38 and born at Kayton near Scarborough and their children were Mary Jane aged 13 and born at Church Fenton and Martha aged 1 and born at Dewsbury Moor. There was also a boarder, Harry Whitaker, aged 29 and born at Holbeck.
In the 1901 index, at Heckmondwike, William was aged 58 and born at Scarborough (sic!), his wife, Hannah was aged 49 and born at Scarborough and their children were Mary Jane aged 23 (no birth place) and Martha aged 10 and born at Dewsbury. There was also the same boarder, Harry Whitaker, aged 39 and born at Holbeck.
William and Hannah's children were:
Elizabeth, born about 1872 at Wighill.
Mary Jane, born about 1877 at Church Fenton.
Martha, born about 1889 at Dewsbury Moor.
