Sarah Killingbeck was baptised 8 July 1804 at Snaith, daughter of George Killingbeck, labourer of Cowick (no mother’s name).
She may have married Thomas Lazenby 9 August 1829 at Drax after banns. They were both of the parish and there were no witnesses in the bishop’s transcript!
Thomas and Sarah lived all their life at Drax Hales. He was an agricultural labourer and 1-3 years older than Sarah and born at Drax. Sarah’s ages and places of birth are as follows: 1841 33, 1851 41 at Drax, 1861 51 at Carlton, 1871 64 at Carlton. In 1851 Joseph Walton was a visitor, aged 19, a tailor and born at Carlton and in 1871 there was a granddaughter, Mary J Tyerman aged 8 and born in Drax.
Sarah Lazenby was buried 26 September 1873 at Drax, of Drax Hales aged 66 (birth year 1806-7). In the various censuses her age is variable and less than it should be making it difficult to know whether this is the correct marriage. The other local possibility is for the daughter of William and Nanny of Camblesforth baptised at Drax, 17 December 1815 but she would be too young to be married in 1829. The Sarah baptised 1804 appears not to have died as a child, so there is unlikely to be a later child of George and Ann called Sarah and not baptised.
Sarah and Thomas’s children were:
Robert Lazenby, baptised 27 December 1829 at Drax (labourer of Drax Hales). In 1841 he was with his parents aged 11. In 1851 he was with his parents, an agricultural labourer aged 21 and born in Drax.
Elizabeth Lazenby, born about 1831. In 1841 she was with her parents aged 9. In 1851 she was with her parents aged 19, an agricultural labourer born in Drax. She married William Tyerman in the Selby district in the September quarter 1854. In 1871, at Providence Place, Drax, William was aged 38, an agricultural labourer born at Aberford. His wife, Elizabeth was aged 39 and their children were Robert H aged 12, Emma aged 10, Alfred aged 5, Arthur aged 3 and Walter aged 1, all born in Drax. Wiliam and Elizabeth’s children were:
