Peter Kerton was baptised 5 December 1773 at Kirkby Malzeard (son of Richard Kerton, of Kirkby).
He married first Elizabeth. Elizabeth was buried 26 October 1801 (wife of Peter) at Kirkby Malzeard.
He married secondly Esther. She was buried 24 March 1806 (wife of Peter) at Kirkby Malzeard.
He married thirdly Alice Furbank 5 January 1811 at Kirkby Malzeard, after banns. He was a widower and she was a spinster and they were both of the parish. The witnesses were Esther Wood and Samuel Atkinson.
Alice was buried 12 August 1838 at Kirkby Malzeard. She was aged 60. Her baptism appears not to have been at Kirkby Malzeard.
In 1841 Peter was living in Kirkby Malzeard, an agricultural labourer aged 65-69 with Elizabeth aged 20-24 and Mary aged 2. All were born in the county.
He was buried 8 April 1846 at Kirkby Malzeard, aged 71.
Peter and Elizabeth’s child was:
Mary Kerton, baptised 3 January 1798 at Kirkby Malzeard (daughter of Peter).
Peter and Esther’s child was:
Elizabeth Kerton (1803 – 1806), baptised 20 August 1803 at Kirkby Malzeard (daughter of Peter). She was apparently buried 14 April 1806 at Kirkby Malzeard (daughter of Peter).
Peter and Alice’s children were:
Richard Kerton (1812 – 1867), baptised 23 February 1812 at Kirkby Malzeard (son of Peter).
In 1841 (Index) he was living in Kirkby Malzeard, aged 25-29 but not with any other Kertons.
In 1851 (index), he was living in Kirkby Malzeard, aged 39 with Mary Kerton aged 11. He was buried 7 April 1867 at Kirkby Malzeard. He was aged 55, which agrees with his baptism date.
George Kerton, baptised 31 May 1818 at Kirkby Malzeard (son of Peter, labourer, and Alice). He was too young to marry in 1831 when his cousin, George, married. However he may later have married an Ann with whom he had a daughter Alice, birth registered in the March quarter 1844 in the Ripon district and baptised in 4 February 1844 at Kirkby Malzeard (daughter of George, hawker, and Ann). There is a marriage registration of a George Kearton to Ann Harper at St John, Knaresborough in the September quarter 1843 and in the 1851 census (index), living in the Knareborough district were George Kirton born 1817 and Ann born 1822 with Alice born 1844.
In 1881, at Knaresborough Workhouse, George Kerton, married, was aged 65, a former general labourer and
born at Kirkby Malzeard.
Elizabeth Kerton, baptised 18 June 1820 at Kirkby Malzeard (daughter of Peter, labourer, and Alice). In 1841 she was living with her father and daughter at Kirkby Malzeard. She was apparently buried 25 September 1846 at Kirkby Malzeard. She was aged 26, which agrees with her baptism.
Her daughter was:
Mary Kerton, born about 1839. There is apparently no registration in the Ripon district. Is her birth registered in the Leeds district in the June quarter 1838?
In 1841 she was with her mother and grandfather, aged 2.
In 1851 (index) she was with her uncle,
Richard. He probably brought her up following the
deaths of her mother and grandfather.
