John was born 11 November 1799 and baptised 25 December 1799 at Linton, a son of John Gibson and Catharine formerly Claydon.
He married Eleanor Crane at St Benedict, Cambridge, 13 April 1828.
In 1841 he was living at 12 Cambridge Place, Cambridge (St Andrew the Less, HO107/85/9 10B), aged 39, a drover. With him was Elenor (sic) aged 35, Emma, aged 5, and John (surname Gibson) aged 3. There was also Mary Crane aged 18, a female servant in a second household (possible Eleanor's relative?). All were born in the county.
In 1851 he was living at Gas Lane, Cambridge (St Andrew the less or Barnwell, HO107/1760 171A), a widower aged 48, a drover and born at Linton. With him were his daughter, Emma Gibson, aged 15, his son John (surnamed Gibson, i.e. Do – ditto - written over ‘Mary’ so it looks like Day) aged 12 and his daughter Mary, aged 7, all born in Cambridge.
In 1861 at 36 Gas Lane, St Andrew the less, Cambridge, John was a widower aged 61 a drover born at Linton. His daughter Mary A was with him, aged 17 and an apprentice to a shoebinder and born at Cambridge. In the same house was the household of William Miller aged 32 a labourer born at St Luke’s London and his wife, Emma [John’s daughter] aged 25 and their children William and Ann aged 5 and 2 and born in Cambridge.
In 1871, at 36 Geldart Street (close to Gas Lane, it is possible that they inhabited the same house which was described slightly differently in the 3 censuses) - , St Andrew the less, Cambridge, John was a widower aged 71, a drover, born at Linton. With him was the family of his daughter Emma F Miller, aged 35, all born in Cambridge. Her husband was William aged 44 a labourer and their children were William aged 15 a bootseller’s boy, Ann E aged 12, Harriet aged 9, Alice aged 4, Robert H aged 2 and an infant son aged 2 days.
He was buried at St Andrew the Less, Cambridge, 13 November 1873, aged 73 (death registered in the December quarter in the Cambridge district 1873, 3b 299).
His children were:
Emma Frances Gibson, baptised 23 August 1835 at St Andrew the Less. Her parents were John (a drover) and Ellen Gibson, of Cambridge Place. She married William Miller.

John Gibson, born about 1837. He was baptised at St Andrew the Less, 3 December 1837 a son of John (shop keeper) and Ellen of Cambridge Place.
Mary Ann Gibson, born about 1843 and registered in the December quarter 1843 in the Cambridge district. In 1851 and 1861 she was at home with her parents. She married Joseph Ivett (X) 16 February 1869 at St Andrew the Less, Cambridge, after banns. He was a widower of Leaders Row a carter, a son of William Ivett a labourer. She was a spinster of Geldart Street and a daughter of John a drover.
