Ann Flack

I am grateful to Denise Carr and Jim Flack, (www.flackgenealogy.co.uk) for some of the information on this page.

She was born 28 February and baptised 18 July 1812 at Linton, the illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth Flack by John Gibson. (The website www.flackgenealogy.co.uk also has another Anne born 6 December 1811 and baptised 31 July 1814 at Linton the illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth Flack. However, there cannot have been two children born three months apart, so presumably there must have been two Elizabeth Flacks at Linton or there may be an error in the date of birth).

In 1841 Ann was with her mother, and her daughter Selina.

In 1851 Ann Gibson was living in George Street, Cambridge, (HO107/1760 228A, same page as her sister Catharine) aged 34, unmarried, a washerwoman, born at Linton.  Her age suggests that she was born about 1817.  As she was a washerwoman she could easily be the daughter of the Elizabeth Gibson who was in the Linton workhouse in 1851.

There is a burial for Ann Gibson 20 November 1856 at St Andrew the Less, Cambridge aged 42.

Anne’s child was:

Selina Gibson or Flack (1835 – 1910), born 29 January and baptised as Selina Gibson, 19 February 1835 at Linton, a daughter of Anne.

In 1841, she was aged 6 at home with her mother and grandmother.

In 1851, Selina Gibson was found as a house servant, unmarried and aged 19, born at Linton, at 4 Victoria Street, Cambridge (St Andrew the Less, otherwise Barnwell, HO107/1760 356A).

Selina Charlotte Flack married William Frederick Chapman in the December quarter 1875 in the Chelsea district.

In 1881, at 55 Waddington Street, West Ham, Essex, Selina Chapman was aged 47 and born at Linton.  Her husband, William Chapman, was aged 44, a painter, born at Great Wigston (Wigston Magna), Leicestershire.  His children (too old to be Selina’s) were Arthur aged 18, a filler (or fitter?) Alfred aged 15 a wheelwright, Ellen aged 12 and Walter aged 10, all born at Stratford.

In 1891 and 1901 she was at 34 Waddington Street, Stratford, West Ham.  She was aged 57 and 67 and born at Linton.  Her husband, William, was aged 54 and 65, a tram car painter born at Great Wigston.  In 1891 his children Alfred aged 25 a railway wheelwright and Ellen aged 21 were with them, both born at Stratford.

Selina Chapman’s death was registered in the West Ham district in the December quarter 1910 aged 77.

She appears to have had no children of her own.
