There are two records for ‘John Ellis’ in the probate index of the Prerogative and Exchequer Courts of York: for 1723 (of Harwood) and 1764 (of Harewood). The latter is probably for this John Ellis, and the baptisms of Mary 1700, Mary 1701 and James 1702 are probably for children of the former, who married first Hannah Stable at Harewood in 1695 who died 1710 and secondly Mary who died 1716
John and his wife’s children were:
1. Elisabeth Ellis, baptised at Harewood 22 February 1723, daughter of John of Wyke.
2. Jane Ellis, baptised at Harewood 13 May 1726,.daughter of John of East Keswick. She married Richard Ellerbeck at York Minster by licence 17 June 1748.
3. Martha Ellis, baptised at Harewood 13 March 1733/34, daughter of John of East Keswick.
