The Family of Lydia Sarah Dickerson formerly Cutter (1831 – 1907)

Lydia Sarah Cutter was baptised 26 June 1831 at Little Abington, a daughter of Ishmael Cutter and Sarah formerly Wright.

In 1841 she was at home with her parents aged 10. 

 

In 1851 she was at home with her father aged 19.

 

She married James Dickerson (a thatcher, baptised 26 December 1830 at Little Abington, a son of John, a shepherd) 13 August 1852 at Little Abington.  She was a spinster, a daughter of Ishmael a shepherd.  They were bachelor and spinster and of full age.  The witnesses were Frederick Bunn and Eliza Dickerson.

 

In 1861, at Little Abington next to her brother Ishmael's family, Lydia A. (sic) was aged 29.  James Dickerson, her husband, was aged 30, a thatcher, and their children were William aged 7, Alma aged 5, Charles aged 4 and Caroline aged 1.  All were born at Little Abington.

 

In 1871 in Church Street, Little Abington, Lydia S. Dickerson was aged 39 and her husband, James, was aged 40, a hurdle maker.  Their children were William aged 17 an agricultural labourer, Alma aged 15, Charles aged 13 an agricultural labourer, Caroline aged 11, Dennis aged 9, Eliza aged 8 and James aged 6.  All were born at Little Abington.

 

In 1881 they were living in Church Lane, Little Abington.  Lydia was aged 49, a hurdlemaker’s wife and born at Little Abington.  James was aged 50, a hurdlemaker, born at Little Abington.  Their children were Dennis aged 19, unmarried, a hurdlemaker’s son, Eliza, unmarried and aged 18 and James was aged 16, a hurdlemaker’s son.

 

In 1891, at Church Street, Little Abington, James Dickerson was aged 60, a hurdle maker and thatcher (employee).  His wife, Lydia, S. was aged 59 and their single children were Caroline aged 31 a housemaid Domestic servant and Eliza aged 28, a dress maker.  All were born in Little Abington.

 

In 1901, at Little Abington, James was aged 70, a hurdlemaker working at home.  Lydia was aged 69 and Eliza was unmarried and aged 38, a dressmaker working at home.  All were born in Little Abington, though the entry for Lydia was blank).

 

Lydia was buried 11 November 1907 at Little Abington, and registered (as Lydia Sarah Dickerson) in the December quarter 1907 in the Linton district.  She was aged 70.

 

James was buried 13 December 1909 at Little Abington.

 

Lydia and James’ children were:

William Dickerson, born 1854 Great Abington and baptised 16 April 1854 at Little Abington. 

In 1861 he was aged 7 at home with his parents.

In 1871 he was at home with his parents aged 17, an agricultural labourer, and born in Little Abington.

He was a hurdlemaker and married Mary Ann Rust (born about 1847 at Wimbush, Essex) 19 April 1879 at Little Abington. 

In 1881 at Elder St Millors Farm, Wimbish, Essex, William (Dickenson) was aged 27 and born at Great Abington.  He was a hurdle maker.  His wife, Mary A. was aged 33 and born at Wimbish.  Also with him was his son in law William R. Rust aged 13 an agricultural labourer, born at Wimbish.  Their daughter was Charlotte M. aged 3 months and born at Wimbish.

William and Mary's children were:

Charlotte M., born early 1881 at Wimbush, Essex.

Elizabeth Kate, born about 1883 and baptised 8 July 1883 at Little Abington.

Alma Dickerson, born 1855 at Great Abington and baptised 12 August 1855 at Little Abington. 

In 1861 she was aged 5 at home with her parents.

In 1871 she was at home with her parents aged 15 and born in Little Abington.

In 1881 at Riversdale, Grantchester, she was single, born at Abington and aged 25, a cook in the household of Arabella Cowlard, a spinster aged 66.  Alma married Alfred John Spicer, an engine driver, 24 November 1904 at Little Abington.

Charles Dickerson, born 1857 at Little Abington and baptised 5 July 1857 at Little Abington. 

In 1861 he was aged 4 at home with his parents.

In 1871 he was at home with his parents aged 13, an agricultural labourer, and born in Little Abington.

In 1881 there were two possibilities:

at Hornchurch Lodge, Hornchurch, he was single, aged 23, a groom, born at Little Abingston, in the household of Edward Thomas Helme and his family, a brewer, aged 38. 

at City of London Workhouse, Robin Hood Court, London, he was a labourer aged 23 and born at Little Abbington. 

Caroline Dickerson, born 1859 and baptised 23 October 1859 at Little Abington. 

In 1861 she was aged 1 at home with her parents.

In 1871 she was at home with her parents aged 11 and born in Little Abington.

In 1881, at 36 Hills Road, Cambridge, she was an unmarried house maid aged 21 and born at Abington, in the household of spinster Fanny T. Abbott aged 63 and her elderly unmarried sisters (3) and brother.

Dennis Dickerson, born 1861 at Little Abington and baptised 8 September 1861 at Little Abington. 

In 1871 he was at home with his parents aged 9 and born in Little Abington.

He was a hurdlemaker.

Eliza Dickerson, born 1863 at Little Abington and baptised 8 March 1863 at Little Abington.  In 1871 she was at home with her parents aged 8 and born in Little Abington.

She married Percival Richard Salmon (an editor, born about 1871) 25 July 1901 at Little Abington.

James Dickerson, born 1865 at Little Abington and baptised 19 March 1865 at Little Abington.  In 1871 he was at home with his parents aged 6 and born in Little Abington.

He was a hurdlemaker.

May Dickerson (1870 - 1870), (not in Cambridge GRO Index) baptised 28 May 1870 at Little Abington.  She was buried 4 June 1870 at Little Abington.
