The Family of Henry Walter Cutter

I am very grateful to Colin Hatton for much of the information on this page.

He was born 20 January 1848 and baptised 5 March 1848 at Little Abington, a son of William Cutter and Sarah formerly Diss.

In 1851, 1861 (agricultural labourer) and 1871 (agricultural labourer) he was at home.

He married Mary Ann Reeder (b 1851 at Hadstock), 21 December 1872 at Linton.

In the 1881 census of Little Abington, Harry was aged 33, an agricultural labourer with his wife, Mary A. aged 30 and born at Hadstock, Essex, and children Ellen L. 7, Wilfred 5, Walter H 1 and Arthur M (sic). 2 months, all born at Little Abington.

In 1891, at Church Street, Little Abington (next to Joseph and Rebecca Cutter), Henry W. was aged 43 an employed agricultural labourer and born at Little Abington.  His wife, Mary Ann, was aged 40 and born at Hadstock, Essex.  Their children were Wilfred aged 16, an employed agricultural labourer, Walter aged 11, Arthur W. aged 10, Emily aged 7, Frederick W. aged 4, Horace G. aged 4 and Cassy aged 9 months, all born at Little Abington.

In the 1901 census of Little Abington, Henry W. was aged 53, a horsekeeper on farm. His wife, Mary A. was aged 50, born at Linton (sic) and his children were Horace G. aged 14 and Cassy Cis (?) aged 10, both born at Little Abington.

In 1911 at Little Abington in 4 rooms, Henry Walter (signed) Cutter was aged 63 a farm labourer, born at Little Abington.  Mary Ann, his wife, was aged 60 and born at Hadstock, Essex.  They had been married for 38 years and had had 8 children of whom one had died.  With them was their daughter Cassy aged 20 who was a help at home and born at Little Abington, and boarder, George Reader single, aged 58 a farm labourer and born at Hadstock.

 

Mary Ann was buried 15 July 1924 at Little Abington.

 

Henry Walter was buried 23 Jan 1941 at Little Abington.

Henry Walter and Mary Ann's children were:

Ellen Lydia Cutter (1873 – 1954), born 12 July 1873 (baptised 31 August 1873) at Little Abington.  She married Sidney Daniel Giddings (born 4 April 1880 at Orwell, Cambs.) 6 July 1901 at Little Abington.  He died about 1948 and was buried in the City Cemetery, Cambridge.  He was a horsekeeper.  She died about 1952 at Cambridge and was buried in the City Cemetery, Cambridge.  There is a death of an Ellen L. Giddings registered in the Cambridge district in the March quarter 1954, aged 80.  Their children were

Frederick S. Giddings, born about 1902 at Cambridge.  He married Martha A. Phillips in 1926 at St Andrew the less, Cambridge.

Emily Elizabeth, born 1904 at Cambridge.  She married George Missing in 1924 at St Andrew the Less, Cambridge.  She was cremated at Cambridge Crematorium.

Leonard Cyril, born 1907 at Cambridge.

Albert Cutter (1909 - 1977), born 7 September 1909 at Cambridge.  He married Jennie Holberry (born 18 July 1910 at Newark, Notts.) 1 June 1939 in Cambridge Register Office.  He died 31 October 1977 and was cremated at Cambridge Crematorium.  He was a railway engine painter and signwriter.

Wilfred Cutter, born 1874 at Little Abington (born (?) 26 March 1875) and baptised 30 May 1875 at Little Abington.  He married Kate Eliza Felton (born about 1876 at Gestingthorpe, Essex) in 1898 in the Chelmsford district.  He was a tramway carman.  Their children were

Walter Henry Cutter, born 1879 at Little Abington.  He was baptised 25 May 1879 at Little Abington.  He married Ethel Eliza Medley in 1903 in the West Ham district.  He was a tramway carman.  Their child was

Arthur William Cutter, born 1881 at Little Abington and baptised 4 February 1881 at Little Abington.  He married Eliza Kirkham in 1908 in the West Ham district.  He was a horsekeeper.

Emily Cutter (1883 - 1958), born 1883 at Little Abington and baptised 27 May 1883 at Little Abington.  She married Thomas Roe (born about 1888 and died 8 May 1970, a labourer, buried at Christchurch Cambridge) 23 December 1909 at Little Abington.  She died 28 November 1958 and was buried at Christchurch Cambridge.  They had three children

Frederick Charles Cutter (1886 - 1901), born 27 April 1886 and baptised as Frederick William 30 May 1886 at Little Abington.  He was buried, as Frederick Cutter, 21 February 1901 at Little Abington.  He was aged 14.

Horace George Cutter (1886 - 1961), born 27 April 1886 at Little Abington and died 4 July 1961 at Little Abington.  He married Henrietta Mary Earthy (born 26 October 1887 at Brixton and died 9 August 1973 at Norwich and cremated at Cambridge crematorium) 3 July 1909 at Little Abington.  He was cremated at Cambridge crematorium.  He was a milkman and also sexton and church clerk of Little Abington for about 30 years, from the time Doris Henrietta Margaret was at school to the 1950s.  Their children were

Irene Pearl Cutter (1910 - 1985), born 8 September 1910 and baptised 23 October 1910 at Little Abington.  She married first Clifford John Stalley (born 1904 and died 28 May 1989 at Cambridge, a woodsman) 11 May 1929 at Little Abington.  She married secondly Bernard E. Hall 1962 (cremated 17 May 2001 at Cambridge) in Cambridge Register Office.  She died in 1985 at Cambridge. 

Denison (1913 - 2003), born 20 April 1913 and baptised 1 June 1913 at Little Abington.  He married Jessica Elizabeth Lowe (born 17 October 1911 and died 24 November 2002 and cremated 3 December 2002 at Torquay) 31 July 1937 at Bexley Heath Kent.  He was buried 15 August 2003.

Doris Henrietta Margaret, born 8 November 1915 at Little Abington and baptised 9 January 1916 at Little Abington.  She married Walter Leslie Hatton (born 9 April 1914 at Landbeach, Cambs and baptised 17 August 1916 at St Giles, Cambridge) 22 August 1936 at Little Abington.  Walter died 4 March 1994 at Cambridge and was cremated Mar 1994 at Cambridge. 

Horace, born 15 January 1918 and baptised 20 February 1918 at Little Abington.  He married first Violet Ruth Bond (born 30 December 1917 at Bury St Edmunds) 10 January 1942 at Cambridge Register Office.  He married secondly Helen Kathleen Seber (born 13 November1920 at Tottenham and died 1 February 2002 at Kings Lynn and cremated 12 February 2002 at Kings Lynn) 1973. 

Cassy, born 1890 at Little Abington and baptised 25 January 1891 at Little Abington.  She married George Lilley (a labourer, born about 1889) 9 September 1911 at Little Abington.
