Sarah was born 1861/2 at Hoo Green, Suffolk and baptised 23 October 1864 at Hoo, a daughter of John Branton and Sarah formerly Starks.
In the 1871 census of Hare Towne? Esher, she was living with her parents, aged 8, born at Hoo.
In 1881 she was with her sister Elizabeth and brother-in-law, Thomas Harrison Wyborn at High Street, Kingston, aged 19 and born at Hoo Green, Suffolk.
There is a marriage entry in the Kingston district in the December quarter 1888 (she may have married Henry Polkinhorne or Richard Spencer Simpson).
