The Family of Charles Banks (c. 1830 – 1892)

He was born about 1830/1 in Clerkenwell, a son of Samuel Banks and Mary formerly Jones.

 

In 1841 he was living at home with his parents.

 

In 1851 he was living at home with his parents, aged 20 and a clerk.

 

In 1861 he was living at 51a Leather Lane, Liberty of Saffron Hill, Finsbury (Holborn district) aged 30, a brewer’s clerk born in Clerkenwell.  His wife, Sarah was aged 28 and born in Islington and their son Charles was aged 5 and born in St Pancras.

 

In 1871 (Index) he was living in Holborn district aged 40 with Sarah aged 38 but not with son Charles.

 

In 1881 he was living at 14 Priory Cottages, Lewisham.  He was aged 50 and living off the interest on monies and born in Clerkenwell.  His wife, Sarah, was aged 48 and born in Islington. 

 

In 1891 (index) he was living in the Lewisham district aged 60 and born in Clerkenwell, and with Sarah aged 58 and born in Islington. 

 

Charles’s death registration was in the Lewisham district in the September quarter 1892.

 

In 1901 (Index) Sarah was living in the Lewisham district aged 67 and born in Islington.  Her husband Charles was not with her. 

 

Sarah’s death registration is in the Lewisham district in the March quarter 1903.  She was aged 69. 

 

Charles and Sarah’s son was:

Charles Banks, born about 1856 in St Pancras.  He may have been registered as Charles Walter Banks in the St Pancras district in the September quarter 1855.
