The Family of Margaret Ellen Pilley formerly Asbery (1874 – 1947)

She was born 1874 (registered Rotherham, March quarter 1874), a daughter of John Asbery and Hannah Elizabeth formerly Vollans.

In the 1881 census of 20 Kimberworth Road, Margeret (sic) E. was living with her family and aged 7 and born in Masbrough. 

 

In the 1891 census of 38 Kimberworth Road, Masbrough, Rotherham, Margaret E. was living with her family, aged 17 and born at Kimberworth.

 

In the 1901 census of 36, Kimberworth Road Margaret E. Pilley was living with her family, aged 27, and born at Rotherham.

 

She was known as ‘Cissie’ and married Fred Pilley, as Margaret E. Asbery, in the June quarter of 1914 in the Rotherham district (9c 1323) and lived at Wath on Dearne. 

 

In the 1939 register, at 140 Melton High Street, Wath-upon-Dearne UD, Margaret E. Pilley had a date of birth of 16 December 1875.  With her was Fred, a general labourer colliery above (incapacitated) and Herbert a coal miner on setter below with a date of birth of 13 August 1915.

 

Fred (sic) Pilley’s death registration may have been in the Rother V. District in the December quarter 1944 aged 63. 

 

A suitable death registration (Margaret E. Pilley aged 73) is in the Rother V. district (2c 953) in the March quarter 1947.

 

Margaret and Fred had one son:

Herbert Pilley (1915 – 1991), date of birth 13 August 1915 (1939 register).  In 1939 he, a coal miner, was with his parents.  In 1965 he lived at 72 Brampton Road, West Melton, Rotherham.  His death was registered in the Doncaster district for the month of February 1991 with a date of birth of born 13 August 1915.  He appears not to have married.
