The Family of John Asbery

He was born 15 September 1793 and baptised 13 October 1793 at Braithwell, a son of Benjamin Asbery and Elizabeth (formerly Foster).

He may have married Mary Booth 29 November 1815 at Stainton by Tickhill.

He married Mary Windle 24 November 1828 at Stainton by Tickhill.

In 1841, at Park Cottage, Bramley, next to his nephew, George Asbery, John was aged 45-49, an agricultural labourer. With him were Mary aged 45-49, Elizabeth aged 20-24, Mary aged 11, Sarah aged 10 and Joseph aged 6. There was also an infant at nurse, William Elliot aged 2 months. All were born in the county.

In 1851, at Bramley, John (Ashberry) was aged 57, an agricultural labourer born at Bramley. His wife, Mary, was aged 56 and born at Rotherham. Mary, his daughter was aged 21 (a house servant crossed out) and born at Bramley. There was also a lodger, William Elliott aged 9 and born at Wickersely.

There is the baptism of Mary Windle (born 18 October 1794) 2 November 1794 at Rotherham, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Windle, so Mary, Sarah and Joseph must be children from a second marriage.

There is a death registration for a John Asbery in the Rotherham district in the December quarter 1857 (the only one phonetic - between 1851 and 1871 in the Rotherham district).

John and Mary's children were:

  1. Ann?, baptised 27 July 1817 at Whiston (Aspberry)
  2. Elizabeth?, born about 1818

John and Mary (Windle)'s children were:

  1. Mary, baptised 11 October 1829 at Braithwell.
  2. Sarah, baptised 7 August 1831 at Braithwell.
  3. Joseph, born about 1834.
