The Family of John George Watts

John George Watts married Maria Shipton in the December quarter 1846 in the Camberwell district.

In the census of 1861, of 16 York Terrace, Camberwell, John G. Watts was aged 35 a fish salesman, born in Southwark. Maria his wife, was aged 36, born at Dagenham, Essex and his children were Anne M. aged 12, Alice A. aged 10, Ellen M., aged 8, Emily A. aged 6 all born in Bermondsey, Horace W. aged 4 and George H. aged 2 both born at Walworth.

In the census of 1881, of 8 Brunswick Square, Camberwell, John George Watts was aged 54, a fish merchant and writer of poetry and stories, born at St Saviour's Southwark. His wife, Maria, was aged 55 and born at Dagenham. His unmarried children were Anne M. aged 32, Alice A. aged 30, Emily A. aged 26, all with no occupations and all born in Bermondsey, Horace W. aged 23, a fish salesman, Walter W. aged 22, a fish salesman, George H. aged 20 a fish salesman assistant, Edwin A. aged 17, a fish merchant assistant, Edith Lucy aged 15, John F. aged 14, Henry B. aged 12 and Charles C. aged 10, all born in Camberwell. There was also an unmarried domestic servant, Susannah Roberts, aged 20, and born in Hull, Yorks.

In 1885 he was an executor, with Frederick Seymour Banks, of his aunt, Lucy Eliza Lucy, who died 12 May 1885).

John George Watts died 12 October 1890. He was of Dudley Lodge, 142 Tulse Hill, Surrey, a fish salesman.

  3. Ellen Mary. Her birth was registered in the March quarter 1853, in the Bermondsey district (1d 95). In 1861 she was living with her parents aged 8, born in Bermondsey. In 1881 she was in the household of her aunt Lucy E. Lucy in Brighton, aged 28 and born in Bermondsey.
  4. Emily Augusta. She was born about 1854. In 1861 she was living with her parents aged 6, born in Bermondsey. In 1881 she was living with her parents aged 26, born in Bermondsey.
  5. Horace William. His birth was registered in the June quarter 1857, in the Newington district (1d 222). In 1861 he was living with his parents aged 4, born in Walworth. In 1881 he was living with his parents aged 23, a fish salesman, born in Camberwell.
  6. Walter Wordsworth His birth was registered in the March quarter 1859, in the Newington district (1d 237). In 1861 he was not living with his parents. (possible omission of name, see George Herbert) In 1881 he was living with his parents aged 22, a fish salesman, born in Camberwell.
  7. George Herbert. His birth was registered in the March quarter 1861, in the Camberwell district (1d 527?). In 1861 he was living with his parents aged 2, born in Walworth. (possible confusion here with Walter Wordsworth, George's details fit Walter better). In 1881 he was living with his parents, aged 20, a fish salesman assistant, born in Camberwell
  8. Edwin A. He was born about 1863. In 1881 he was living with his parents aged 17, a fish merchant assistant, born in Camberwell.
  9. Edith Lucy. She was born about 1865. In 1881 she was living with her parents aged 15, born in Camberwell.
  10. John F. He was born about 1866. In 1881 he was living with his parents aged 14, born in Camberwell.
  11. Henry Blundell. He was born about 1868. In 1881 he was living with his parents aged 12 and born in Camberwell.
  12. Charles Cheldrey. His birth was registered in the December quarter 1870 in the Camberwell district (1d 628). In 1881 he was living with his parents aged 10, and born in Camberwell.
