Elizabeth Kate Turner

Elizabeth Kate with WENT and Muriel c. 1927.jpgThis picture of Elizabeth Kate Turner was taken about 1927.  She is with her nephew, Walter Edward Neal Turner and great niece Muriel Annie Grace.

She was born 29 April 1860 at Warfield (Bracknell), Berks, a daughter of Henry Turner (farm labourer) and Ann Turner formerly Guley. Ann registered the birth and signed the register.

In 1861 she was at home with her parents.

In 1871 she was living at home with her parents, in Broad Lane, Holy Trinity Bracknell.

In 1881 she was living at 64 Princes Square, London, Middx, aged 20, unmarried, a domestic servant parlourmaid, born at Bracknell, in the household of Contts Stone, aged 62, an architect.

She was probably a witness at the marriage of her brother, Walter Charles, and Annie Searle, 19 May 1886.

In the 1891 census index, in St Jude, Kensington, Elizabeth K. Turner was a servant aged 30 and born in Bracknell, in the household of Edward (32) and Suzanne (29) Majolier.  There was a Norah Cumberland in the household.

In the 1901 census index, she (Elizabeth Turner) was living in Kensington, single, aged 40, a parlourmaid (domestic), born in Bracknell, in the household of William (67) and Louisa (67) Cumberland.  There was another servant in the household, Emma Turner, aged 35 and born in Bracknell (clearly Elizabeth's sister).

In the 1911 census, Elizabeth was still with the Cumberlands at 21 Bramham Gardens, Earls Court.  She was a parlour maid aged 50 and born in Bracknell.  Her sister Emma was also there as a housemaid, aged 45 and born in Bracknell.

In 1923 she was living at 38 East Ham Road, Littlehampton, probably caring for her invalid sister, who had suffered a stroke and who died of heart disease.

On 29 June 1933 she (E.K. Turner, sister) registered her brother, Walter Charles Turner's death.  She was single and living at 72 Gordon Court, Ducane Road, London W12.

Her death has not yet been located.  There is a possible death registration of an Elizabeth K. Turner in the Surrey Mid E. District and in the December quarter 1942.  She was aged 82.  A less likely one perhaps is in the Samford (Suffolk) district and the March quarter 1948.  This one one was aged 87.
