He married Ann.

In the 1861 census of East Chisenbury, parish of Enford, he was aged 41, a carter, his wife, Ann was aged 41 and his daughter Charlotte was aged 11 and all were born at Enford.

In the census of 1871, of Chisenbury hamlet, parish of Enford, he was aged 51, an agricultural labourer, born at Enford and his wife Ann was aged 56, born at Collingborne.

In 1881 at Enford, he was aged 61, a carter, born at Netheravon, and his wife, Ann, was aged 65 and born at Collingbourne, Wilts.

James and Ann's child was:

1. Charlotte. She was born 25 December 1849 and baptised 6 May 1860 at Enford (East Chisenbury, labourer). In 1881 she was single, aged 30 and born at Enford, a parlour maid in the household of Frances Pierce, a widow aged 66 and a landed proprietor at 9 Lansdown Place, Clifton (Bristol?) Gloucester.
