She was born about 1824/5 at Alfreton, Derbyshire, a daughter of George Shepperson and Ann formerly Johnson.
In 1851, at Tag Hill, Heanor, as a lodger, Hannah Shepperson was a seamer aged 26 and born at Alfreton. She was with Lawrence Anderson, married, aged 37, a cotton framework knitter, born in Scotland. Also with her as lodgers were Ann Anderson aged 2 and born in Belper and James Anderson aged 4 weeks/months and born in Carlton.
In 1861, at Beardall’s Lane, Hucknall, Hannah Shepperson was unmarried a housekeeper aged 34 and a cotton framework knitter, born in Codnor Park. As head was Lawrence Anderson aged 47 unmarried and a cotton framework knitter, born in Scotland. There were sons and daughters with the surname Shepperson: Ann aged 12, an occasional framework knitter, born in Belper, James aged 10 a seamer born in Carlton, John aged 8 and born in Heanor, Mary aged 5 and born in Hucknall, as were Elizabeth aged 3 and William aged 1 month.
In 1871, at Butler’s Hill, Hucknall, Hannah was the head and unmarried, aged 46 and born in Codnor Park. Her daughter, Ann Birch, was a widow, aged 23 a ?ale stitcher and born in Belper. Her other Shepperson children were James aged 20 a coal miner, born at Carlton, John aged 18 a miner born in Heanor, Mary aged 15, Elizabeth aged 13, William aged 11, Clara aged 6, George aged 3 and grandson William Birch aged 3. The last 6 were born in Hucknall. Lawrence Anderson, unmarried aged 57, and born in Perth, Scotland, a framework knitter was lodging in South Street Place, Hucknall, so was living apart from Hannah and her family. Hannah never married Lawrence though her children (except Ann) seem to have been registered as Anderson.
In 1881 in East Well Street, Hucknall Torkard, Hannah was aged 59, a charwoman born in Codnor Park. Her children were William aged 19 a colliery engine driver, Clara aged 16 a wool ? stitcher, and her grandson William S. Birch was aged 13, a coal miner. All were born in Hucknall.
In 1891 at the same address, Hannah was 69 a widow born at Codnor Park. William Birch her grandson was aged 23 a coal miner born at Hucknall. There were three Golden (Gouldin) grandchildren; James aged 14, Annie aged 12, and Elizabeth aged 7, all born in Hucknall and a visitor (probably Hannah’s half-sister) Mary Shepperson aged 63 and born in Lambley.
Hannah’s death was registered in the Basford district in the June quarter 1900. She was aged 74.
Hannah’s children were (registrations not proved):
1) Ann Shepperson, born 1848-9 at Belper and birth apparently registered in the Belper district in the March quarter 1849.
2) James Anderson, born 1850-1 at Carlton and birth apparently registered in the Basford district in the December quarter 1850.
3) John Anderson, born 1852-3 in Heanor and birth apparently registered in the Basford district in the June quarter 1852.
4) Mary Anderson, born about 1855-6 in Hucknall and birth apparently registered in the Basford district in the September quarter 1855. James Gouldin married Mary Shepparson in the Basford district in the June quarter 1874. Their children were:
a. James Alfred Goulding, birth registered in the Basford district in the December quarter 1876.
b. Ann Goulding, birth registered in the Basford district in the December quarter 1878.
c. Elizabeth Goulding, born about 1883-4 at Hucknall.
5) Elizabeth Anderson, born about 1857-8 in Hucknall and birth apparently registered in the Basford district in the March quarter 1858.
6) William Anderson, born 1861 at Hucknall and birth apparently registered in the Basford district in the March quarter 1861.
7) Clara Anderson, born 1864-5 at Hucknall and birth apparently registered in the Basford district in the June quarter 1864.
8) George Anderson, born about 1867-8 at Hucknall and birth apparently registered in the Basford district in the September quarter 1867.
