He was born 5 April 1809 and baptised 30 April 1809 at Chertsey, a son of William Searle and Ann Spong.
He married Celia Harris 5 Feb 1831 at Chertsey.
In the census of 1841, in London Road, Chertsey, John was aged 30-34, a carpenter. Celia was aged 25-29. William was aged 10, Robert was aged 8, Eliza was aged 6 and Charlotte was aged 6 months. There was also Alin (female) Critchfield aged 60-64. All were born in the county.
In the census of 1851, in London Road, Chertsey, John was aged 42, a carpenter. His wife, Celia, was aged ?, William was aged 19 a labourer, Robert was aged 17, Charlotte was aged ?, Ann was aged ?, Mary was aged ?, Millill was aged 3 and Ellen was aged ? months. All were born at Chertsey. (The ages were obliterated by a thick stoke through them.)
In the census of 1861, in London Street, Chertsey, Jehu was aged 52 and a carpenter. His wife, Celia was aged 51 and their children were William, aged 30, a miller, Robert aged 28 a plasterer’s labourer and Ellen aged 10. All were born in Chertsey.
Celia’s death was registered in the Chertsey district in the September quarter 1866. She was aged 55.
Jehu’s death was registered in the Chertsey district in the March quarter 1869. He was aged 59.

1. William Searle, born 10 April 1831 and baptised 22 May 1831 at Chertsey.
In 1881, in London Street, Chertsey, William was aged 49, a labourer in a flour mill and born at Chertsey. Eliza, his wife, was aged 40 and born at Purbright. Their children were Elizabeth aged 11, Ellen aged 9, Mary A. aged 3 and Alice aged 2 months. All were born at Chertsey. There was also Herbert Searle, a nephew aged 12 and born at Chertsey (could he be Robert’s son?).
2. Robert Searle, born 24 September 1832 and baptised 21 October 1832 at Chertsey. He is likely to have died in the December quarter 1872 in the Chertsey district. He was aged 40.
3. Eliza Searle, born 19 June 1834 and baptised 21 July 1834 at Chertsey.
4. Emma Searle (1836 - 1836), born 13 July 1836 and baptised 31 July 1836 at Chertsey. She was buried 22 December 1836.
5. Charlotte Ellen Searle, born 27 October 1840 and baptised 29 November 1840 at Chertsey.
6. Ann Searle, baptised 1 January 1843 at Chertsey.
7. Mary Hannah Searle, baptised 2 February 1845 at Chertsey.
8. Millist Searle (1847 – 1852) (male), baptised 9 May 1847 at Chersey. His death was registered in the September quarter 1852 in the Chertsey district. (There were Millists in Chertsey in the 17th century.)
9. Ellen Searle, baptised 2 February 1851 at Chertsey.
