Hester was born 15 March 1823 and baptised 16 April 1823 at Chertsey. She was a daughter of William Searle.
In the census of 1851, at a hospital in the St Pancras area, she (as Esther) appears to be single, aged 28 and born at Chertsey.
She (as Esther R.) married Charles Edwards in the East London district, in the December quarter 1852.
In the census of 1871, at 11 Attwell Road, Camberwell, Surrey, Esther was aged 48 and born at Chertsey. Charles, her husband, was aged 48 a gardener, born at Sutton. Their children were Mary aged 17, Charles aged 15, Henry aged 13, Esther aged 11 and Edward aged 8. All were born at Peckham.
In the census of 1881, at 30 Atwell Road, Camberwell, Surrey, she (as Ester R.) was aged 58 and born at Chertsey. Her husband, Charles Edwards, was aged 53, a gardener and born at Carshalton. With them were two sons, both single, gardeners and born at Peckham, Charles W aged 25 and Edward aged 18.
