He was born 19 February 1866 in Islington and baptised 18 March 1866 at St Andrew Holborn, a son of Thomas Robinson and Theophila formerly Banks.
In 1881 he appears to have been a scholar (aged 15, born London) at Middle Class School, High Street, Beaconsfield (Principal Arthur Denman aged 40, unmarried and born in London).
In 1901 he was living at Sunnyside, Hale Grove, Mill Hill, aged 35, a corn merchant (employer) and born in Islington. His first wife was Eliza P., aged 35 and born in Islington. There was a general servant.
After his first wife died, he married his cousin Maud Mary Banks, a daughter of Frederick Seymour Banks and Elizabeth formerly Belsham. There is a suitable marriage in the June quarter of 1909 in the registration district of London C (1c 10).
