The Family of Kate Sophia Silver formerly Pettit (1877 - 1964)

Kate Sophia Pettit was baptised 11 February 1877 at Hargrave, a daughter of John Pettit labourer and Eliza formerly Birch.

In the 1901 census of Broad Green, Chevington, Kate aged 24, was living with her mother and born at Hargrave.

She married Samuel Silver on 12 August 1907 at the Register Office, Hackney.  She was aged 32, a spinster of 134 Sandringham Road, Dalston, a daughter of John Pettit (deceased) a farmer.  Samuel was aged 35, a bachelor and baker and confectioner, of the same address, a son of Isaac Silver, a caterer and baker.  The witnesses were Leah Silver and Fanny Silver.

In 1911 in 9 Brett Road, Hackney, in 2 rooms, Samuel Silver was aged 39 a baker’s confectioner, working at home on his own account and born in Australia.  Golda was aged 34 and born at Hargrave.  They had been married for 4 years and had had three children all of whom were living.  These were Samuel Isaac was aged 3, Francis Leah (female) was aged 1yr and 10 months and Rachel Petite aged 9 months.  All were born in Dalston.  Rachel Petite looks like the cousin of Hilda Victoria Fitch, Rachel Pettit Silver, who was unmarried in 1969, living at 34 Satanita Road, Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex.  Golda must therefore be Kate Sophia!

Samuel Silver’s death was registered in the Southend district in the June quarter 1950.  He was aged 78.

In 1939 (register) Kate S. Silver with no date of birth was living in the Southend-on-Sea MB with Lydia A. Silver (her daughter).  Samuel Silver with a birth year of 1871 appears to be with his son, Isaac Samuel Silver and two more people in Hackney.

Kate died in 1964 (indexed as Kate S. Silver, 87, Southend district, June quarter 1964).

Samuel and Kate’s children were:

Samuel Isaac Silver (aka Ike),  He was registered as Isaac Samuel in the December quarter 1907 in the West Ham district.  He (Isaac Samuel) married Lily Basser (registered in the December quarter 1945 in the Hackney district) and had a bakery with his father at Leigh-on-Sea, Essex.

Frances Leah E Silver (aka Leah), birth registered in the June quarter 1909 in the Hackney district.

Rachel Pettit Silver, birth registered in the September quarter 1910 in the Hackney district.

Lydia A. Silver, birth registered in the June quarter 1914 in the Hackney district.
