Dorothy May Ollington, late Courtney formerly Pettit (1904 – 1995)

She was born 21 May 1904 at Cowlinge, a daughter of Ernest Albert Pettit and Annie formerly Challis.

 

In 1911 she was living with her parents, aged 6 and born at Cowlinge.

 

She married James (Jim) Courtney, a stable hand at Newmarket in the summer of 1934, (registered Dorothy M Pettitt, Courtney, Newmarket 5b 1517 September quarter).

 

In the 1939 register she was living at Acton Hall Cottage, Halmore, Thornbury, Gloucestershire, where James Courtney was a gardener with a date of birth of 15 March 1895.  Dorothy had a date of birth of 21 May 1904. 

 

James Courtney died in the September quarter 1960 in the Newmarket district aged 66. 

 

She married secondly Walter B.M. (known as Ben) Ollington in the June quarter 1965 in the Newmarket district. 

 

She and Ben lived at Centre Drive, Newmarket and then at St Wendreds Way, Exning. 

 

Dorrie, as she was known, was a companion to the wife/personal assistant of the artist Frank O. Salisbury. 

 

She died 21 December 1995 and is buried, with Jim Courtney, in Exning cemetery.

 

She had no children.
