Charles Edwin Pettit was baptised 8 March 1874 at Hargrave, a son of John Pettit labourer and Eliza formerly Birch. He appears to be registered in the June quarter of 1874 in the registration district of Thingoe as Charles Edward Pettitt.
He married Rose. Charles Edwin Pettitt and Rose Mary A. Lynch were married in the registration district of Mile End (1c 725) June quarter 1900.
In the census of 1901, of 66, Portland Street, Ratcliff, Stepney, living in 2 rooms were Charles Pettitt aged 27, a stone mason, born Hargrave, and his wife Rose, aged 25, born in Whitechapel, London.
In 1907-9 Charles’s address was given by Oliver as 24 Belgrave Street, Stepney.
In 1911 at 66 Whitwell Road, Baalam Street, Plaistow, in 6 rooms, Charles Edwin Pettitt was aged 37, a stone mason, building and street work (a worker, working from home) and born at Hargrave. Rose Mary Ann was aged 35, and born in Whitechapel. They had been married for 10 years and had had four children of whom one had died. Their children were Winifred May was aged 9 born at Stepney, Rose Edith was aged 6 and born at Limehouse and Ivy Annie was aged 3 born at Stepney. There was also a boarder, John Booth aged 71, a cabinet maker born at Spalding, Lincs.
In 1923 Charles was living at 25 Beaufoy Road, Plaistow.
His death (Charles E Pettitt) was registered in the West Ham district in the March quarter 1935. He was aged 61.

Winifred May Pettit, birth registered in the June quarter 1901 in the Stepney district.
Ethel Eliza Pettitt (1902 – 1904), birth registered in the December quarter 1902 and death
registered in the March quarter 1904 aged 1, both events in the Stepney
district. This looks very likely to be
the child that died (1911 census).

Ivy Annie Pettit, birth registered in the September quarter 1907 in the Stepney district.
