The Family of Albert Ernest Pettit (1907 – 1984)

 

Albert Ernest Pettit was born 4 February 1907 at Cowlinge (March quarter 1907 Risbridge 4a 891 – Risbridge includes Cowlinge but not Hargrave or Dalham), a son of Ernest Albert Pettit and Annie formerly Challis. 

 

In 1911 he was living with his parents aged 4 and born at Cowlinge.

 

He married, (Great Bradley, Suffolk) Nora May Jolly in 1933 (registered as Albert E. Pettitt, Jolly, September quarter, Risbridge 4a 2715).  She was of Langacre Farm, Kirtling and born 16 November 1904 at Cowlinge – registered as Nora May Jolly in the Risbridge district in the December quarter 1904 - and died 19 May 1989 aged 84, and registered as Nora May Pettitt with a birth date of 16 November 1904 in the Bury St Edmunds district and in the June quarter).  She was discovered to be his fifth cousin.

 

In the 1939 register Albert E and Norah M Pettitt were living at High Street, Bottisham.  He was a motor lorry driver heavy worker with a date of birth of 4 February 1907 and Norah M. had a date of birth of 16 (sic) November 1904.  There was one other whose record is closed.

 

Albert and Nora lived, and are buried, at Bottisham.  Albert was a sales representative for Reddex (an early petrol additive, mixed with the petrol in the fuel tank).  Albert died 8 April 1984.
